Interview: Debut Author Flossie Benton Rogers

A faery witch or Wytchfae, Kelly O’Day’s calling is to transition ghosts to their afterlife. When she falls for sexy Viking ghost Ingvar Hrothson, she breaks the rule against personal involvement.

Cursed over a thousand years ago to roam the earth as a restless spirit, Ingvar is hell bent on two things—save his sister and destroy the evil sorceress responsible for her death. He needs Kelly to help him go back in time. Hating all forms of dark power, he never dreamed he would be bewitched by a flesh and blood woman with magical powers.

Kelly and Ingvar battle sinister forces and multiple attempts on their lives. With their attraction approaching supernova, the couple must decide whether their romance of a lifetime is also worth fighting for.

Hello, Flossie Benton Rogers. It's a pleasure to have you stop by today. Please tell me about your book.
It’s a pleasure to be here. Thanks for having me. My paranormal romance novel, Wytchfae Runes, debuts today from Secret Cravings Publishing. As a matter of symmetry, I am answering 17 questions.

The Questions
  1. What holiday would you invent to get a day off work? International Asteroid Missed the Earth Day.

  2. What was the first car you drove? A red Triumph sports car convertible.

  3. What mythical creature would you want to be? I’d want to be a member of the fae realm, as Kelly is in Wytchfae Runes. She’s a faery witch whose job is to transition ghosts to their afterlife.

  4. What is your favorite quote? John Keats: “Real are the dreams of gods and soothly pass their pleasures in a long immortal dream.” This describes the essence of mythology, which I love and which forms the webbing of my books.

  5. If you were a flower, which one would you be and why? I’d be a small purple wildflower deep in the forest, and I’d add my own mysterious scent to the evergreen air.
  6. Do you have pets? I have a 13 year old basset hound named Daisy Josette who sleeps beside me while I write.

  7. What’s your favorite tv show of all time and why? Supernatural—love Sam and Dean and their Impala. Their father is pretty awesome too.

  8. If you were to go to the past or future, where would you stay and why? As Kelly and Ingvar do in Wytchfae Runes, I would visit ancient Norway. I’ve been drawn to that location since the characters in our elementary school reading book visited there.

  9. If you had to be a teacher of something, what would you teach? I have taught before—high school literature and drama. I’ve also taught adult literacy tutors and an alternative healing method, Reiki.

  10. What is your mantra in life? From Julian of Norwich: “All is well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.”

  11. What are your three favorite spices? Nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. They’ll enliven any dish.

  12. What is your favorite unusual food combination? Kelly, the heroine in Wytchfae Runes, likes Irish whiskey and chocklot cereal puffs after she transitions ghosts to their afterlife.

  13. If you could meet anyone from history, who would you meet and why? The ancient British warrioress Boudica. I’d love to know the real story of her fight against the Romans and how she handled her sorrows and triumphs.

  14. What is your favorite song? A Place Called Home by Kim Richey. It evokes a sense of gypsy wanderlust combined with the feeling we have when we’re with loved ones or people with whom we share an affinity.

  15. If you were to perform in the circus, what would you do? Our family attended a circus recently, and I was mesmerized by the performing horses and their female trainer. All I could think about was creating a story centered around them. Maybe the trainer is injured during a performance in a small town and falls for her doctor. With her passion for the circus and life on the road, how will the hero ever see her again?

  16. If you could have any super power, what would it be? I would choose the power of speed writing, also speed editing. As the saying goes, there are so many books and so little time.

  17. Have you ever had the feeling you were being watched? Yes, the characters Kelly and Ingvar from Wytchfae Runes have their eyes on me right now. They insist they want to drop in on the heroine and hero, Epona and Eshigel, in an upcoming book in the Wytchfae series. Kelly and Ingvar say it’s only fair since Epona and Eshigel make an appearance in Wytchfae Runes.
